The Tassili n’Ajjer is an immense plateau located in the south-east of Algeria on the borders of Libya, Niger and Mali, covering an area of 72,000 km². The exceptional density of paintings and engravings, and the existence of numerous prehistoric remains are exceptional testimonies of prehistory.
From 10,000 years before our era until the first centuries, successive populations have left numerous archaeological traces, habitats, tumuli and enclosures, which have yielded abundant lithic and ceramic material. However, it is the rock art (engravings and paintings) that has made TASSILI world famous.
