Ksour (Ighzer, Aghlad, Ouled Said, Guentour)
Each ksar is independent. It is organized like a small town, whose activities take place inside the perimeter walls and where the central square connects the alleys that separate the houses. In general, the inhabitants of a ksar all belong more or less to the same ethnic group, even the same tribe.
Fougaras
A traditional and original method of water drainage. The underground drainage channels of the upper part of the aquifer which “convey” the water to an altimetric level compatible with that of the arable land. A kind of distributor whose branches more or less apart allow everyone to receive the quantity of water to which they are entitled in proportion to the capital invested.
The Great Western Erg
The Grand Erg Occidental is a massif of dunes in the Algerian Sahara which extends over 78,000 km21 (crescent dunes1, culminating at nearly 300 meters high).
